Faith is a gift, and keeping it alive in today’s ever-changing world takes courage and focus.

In today’s world, it’s no surprise that many of us keep faith perfunctorily. We live in an era where our daily routine mostly begins with catching the bus to work and ends with us retiring thinking about how tomorrow’s day will begin. With so many distractions all around us- mobile phones, social media, the Internet, and the ever-changing entertainment culture that governs the lives of millions, faith often have to take the backseat.

We live in interesting times and an epoch where wars of aggression, inequality, prejudice, poverty, pandemic, and even religion continue to divide people. In a world filled with suffering, anxiety, hatred, depression, and confusion, people seek happiness and fulfillment not spiritual but in material and tangible. But some put their faith in God and let His will help them survive. The book She Let God Write Her Story by Yelena Borichevska reminds us that keeping faith and trusting God’s design can help us find joy and serenity in this seemingly chaotic world.

There are simple ways to keep the faith and, at the same time, help you thrive in this fast-paced society.

Practicing one’s faith requires solemnity and time away from the public. Although people living in today’s demanding times may find it hard to pray, meditate, or reflect, it may be surprising to learn that these are precisely what they need to survive the toxic and busy environment. Faith and spirituality are synonymous with meditation, relaxation, and serenity. These are rarely present in a fast-paced environment and today’s modern society. So how exactly can one practice one’s faith, build a strong spiritual connection while at the same time being on top of things, and function as a healthy member of society?

Always begin the day with a prayer. Do start and end your day with a prayer. It is one of the most fundamental practices most of us have forgotten. In this day and age, the first thing most of us do upon waking is to grab our smartphones and check in on what’s latest. And then we get distracted with what’s happening in the virtual world that we forget to thank God for a brand new day. After a busy day, it would be nice to say a prayer and thank God for giving you the strength and wisdom to last another fruitful day.

Incorporate technology in your faith. Technology, instead of being a distraction, can be a tool to strengthen your faith. There are Bible apps available, and they provide users with daily inspiration, Gospel of the day, and other updates, which can help users connect with God’s word wherever they are. Whether you are on your lunch break, taking time off your screen, or taking the bus on your way to work, taking time to reflect or read the Gospel is a way to keep your faith alive and healthy. You can even hear mass online, although going to church on Sundays is the most ideal.

Practice faith within your community. Even in this age of alienation and privacy, where people prefer to interact virtually, practicing faith requires us to commune with others. The only way to practice one’s faith is when he or she shares it with others. So take time to interact with community, town, and church members. A healthy church community is comprised of healthy individuals actively living the Word of God and spreading its lessons daily.

Do good because it always feels good. Keeping the faith also means practicing it in your daily life- at work, school, community, and everywhere you may be. By practicing faith, we mean being genuinely kind to others. So go out there and do good, simply because it feels good. And in time, you will realize that keeping the faith also means keeping faith in humanity. Every person is created in the image of God, and as the old saying ‘to love another person is to see the face of God.’

Find Biblical inspirations in daily life. The Bible is full of heroes and inspiring characters. They exude virtues, principles, and features that can be useful in everyday life. These days, humility, kindness, fortitude, devotion, and obedience are rare, yet these traits can help you find happiness and fulfillment in a world full of pride, arrogance, and indifference.
